Opening night....

Thanks for attending the opening night of the new Rusholme Film Club season. The film, ‘Searching for Sugarman’ was excellent, it looked great on the new bigger screen and the soundtrack was perfect for the new sound-system. So if you have been before come along and see and hear for yourself!

Rusholme Film Club is back, the friendly way to watch a film!

We open the new programme with ‘Searching for Sugarman’ on Sunday 20^th October.

For those new to Rusholme Film Club, we show a variety of films using a projector and screen. So the Odeon it isn’t but you can catch with your friends, make some new ones and find out about what else is happening in magical Rusholme and further afield. And of course it is free (thanks to a Manchester City Council Cash Grant) and refreshments are available.

So don’t be shy, Rob welcomes all new members with a brew and a chat!

Stories of the Great Turning:

 

The launch of the book: Stories of the Great Turning, 20th September at 6.30 - 8.30pm at Birch Community Centre. Please see the poster below for RSVP details.

 

Stories of the Great Turning is inspired by an essay from Joanna Macy of the same title. The book consists of tales of 15 people who have aimed to make a difference where they stand. Vala is a co-operative publishing company. I enclose a list of the stories with a summary line to demonstrate their varied nature.

 

NEW Sewing Bees workshops:

Rusholme Film Club- coming soon!

Good news, we have secured funding from Manchester City Council's Cash Grants to continue Rusholme Film Club for another season. The grant provides funding for room-hire, a new larger screen and purchase of films.

 

The film season will run October 2013 - April 2014, monthly, 5.30-8pm:

20th October, 17th November, 15th December, 19th February, 16th March, 20th April

 

So what would you like to see? Please let me have your ideas.

 

And those that didn't make the showing of animation shorts, it turns out Brighton Grove was a great venue. Charles 'Joe' Noble spent some of his life living at 14 Brighton Grove and became Britain's oldest animator and made in 1928 he was granted a master patent for a sound cartoon film system, and in November he released the first British talking cartoon, “Orace the ‘Armonious’ Ound”, later completing the first animated sound-film commercial, “Mr York of York, Yorks”. Crafty Summer Shorts

We are applying for funding to carry-on the Film Club starting again in September which will include the cancelled showing of the ‘The Artist’- I hope everyone received a message in good time.

 

But first something different for the Summer at the Rusholme Film Club for families and adults.

 

On Sunday 16^th June, we have an eco-theme with a recycled paper sculpture craft session (4.30-6pm) followed by ‘Do The Math’- a documentary about climate change that took the US by storm. http://math.350.org/, (42 mins).

Sunday 28^th July recreate Victorian animation devices such as the Thaumatrope (4-5.30pm). This is followed by an hour of short animations from the old to the new, the famous to the rarely seen.

The Film Club is free, with refreshment available for a charge. It takes place at The Birch Community Centre, Brighton Grove, M14 5JT.
